The Van Wert Council on Aging is hosting an open house from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23 at the Van Wert Senior Center, 220 Fox Rd. in Van Wert. Light refreshments will be served, and attendees will have a chance to win one of several door prizes. The open house is being held to allow members of the public the opportunity to tour the senior center, and receive information on services available to senior citizens. “We’re hoping for a good turn-out from the public,” said Council on Aging Executive Director Cindy Wood. “This is a great way for people to come in and see the wonderful facility we offer senior citizens, as well as receiving information on services provided by our agency.”

On November 8, voters will decide the future of the agency as a pair of levies will appear on the election ballot. “These levies represent how we operate,” Wood said. “We are not seeking any type of increase in the millage of the levies. We are only asking for what has been approved before,” she added, stressing that the levies are not a new tax in Van Wert County.

The Council on Aging offers services to senior citizens including transportation, a daily meal, information and referral, lawnmowing services, as well as a host of daily activities available at the senior center.   Wood added, “With so much negative in the world today, we want to show the public what is positive about our community, and what we can be thankful for. We hope everyone comes out to the open house to share in a wonderful afternoon with us.” For more information, call   419-238-5011.
