M. Pauline “Polly” Hunter of Van Wert died at 6:45 a.m. Thursday, October 27, 2011, at Vancrest Health Care Center in Van Wert.

She was born February 15, 1921, in Dixon, the daughter of the late Orville E. and Edith A. (McDowell) Stephenson. On October 1, 1944, she married Ronald L. Hunter, who preceded her in death on October 31, 2005.

Polly was a 1939 graduate of Tully-Convoy High School. She is a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Van Wert and a life member of the Van Wert Chapter of the Women of the Moose, where she was very active. She was also a life member of American Legion Auxiliary Unit 178 in Van Wert and, along with her husband, had been an active participant in the YWCA trips. For several years, Polly was employed by the former John Earl Department Store and, after many years of service retired from Laudick’s Jewelry.

Survivors include a daughter, Sharon L. (Lynn) Baer of Van Wert; two grandchildren, Melissa L. (Robert) Day of Delaware (Ohio) and Bradley L. Baer of Van Wert; and two great-grandchildren, Laurel and Alayna Day, both of Delaware.

A sister, Dorothy Young; and two brothers, Floyd and Clark Stephenson, also preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 31, at Brickner Funeral Home in Van Wert, with Pastor Will Haggis officiating. Burial will follow in IOOF Cemetery in Convoy.

Calling hours are from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, October 30, at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials: St. Mark’s Lutheran Church or a charity of donor’s choice.
