We have Presence
By Hope Wallace

The Wassenberg Art Center has a new presence on the world-wide-web! How long has it been that you heard it referred to as that? Only a short time ago we were required to type in “www” before every website we wanted to visit. Now most times, simply keying in the name will work. If you type “wassenbergartcenter.org” you will be directed to our brand new website! This is very exciting news for us as the work on this site has been in making for several months. The art center would like to thank Mark Hegemier and Stuart Jewett of Be Scene Multi-media for bringing this to reality. Mark’s diligent and painstaking coding produced a site which reflected our vision with ease of navigation and clean, bright graphics that represent the Wassenberg Art Center to its fullest. You can now join the Wassenberg Art Center online, download entry forms, submit sponsorships or indicate a desire to volunteer. We’ve also introduced different membership levels such as a lower cost youth and practicing artist categories. Mouse on over to wassenbergartcenter.org and browse around.
Tonight is the first Tuesday night ArtNight! Anyone who wants to come to the art center to draw, paint, sculpt or work with ceramics is invited to hang out. You don’t have to be an artist to enjoy creating. (That’s why we’re here!) Instructors Matt Temple and/or myself will be on hand to answer your questions or to offer suggestion about technique, subject, color or other processes. Bring your art supplies, a friend and your ideas and hang out with us! If you like to work with ceramics, a free-will donation will be accepted to offset cost of the materials. ArtNight will happen every Tuesday, 6–8 p.m. with some downtime over the holidays and is open to anyone 18 and over unless accompanied by an adult. Art is not scary!
Speaking of scary, congratulations to Peyton Closson, Van Wert as the winning T-Rex drawing for a free any size/any kind pizza from Pizza Hut®! This is a wonderful rendition of Batman holding his own against this terrible prehistoric menace. Great use of imagination and graphic style, Peyton! Stay tuned for our next pizza challenge!
November 8, is the deadline for our Creative Catalysts Art Exhibit and Sale entires. If you are an artist; for the cost of an artist membership, you may enter your work for a month long display and sale here at the Wassenberg Art Center. It is a great opportunity for holiday shoppers to find a unique gift for those they love and/or the difficult to buy for! Please give us a call or e-mail us for an entry form. This is a non-juried exhibit but awards will be given. In addition, please join us for our wine and cheese reception, November 12, 6-8 p.m. Awards will be presented at 7 p.m. Mike Klutka and Tony Wilkinson will be serenading us with their acoustic guitars and velvet voices, and the gourmet cheese tastings will be conducted by Canal Junction Cheese, Defiance. The cheese is made on a beautiful farm from the milk of grass-fed cows. We will have several different wines available that appeal to all palettes. Just so we don’t thoughtlessly abandon our sweet tooth, Travis Tribolet will be providing chocolate bon bons and petit fours. Please support your local artists and join us for an evening of warm friendship, food, spirit, music and fun.
