Marlins do well at recent swim meets

The Van Wert YMCA Marlins opened their winter season on September 22 by dropping a pair of matches to Lima and Wapakoneta in a tri-meet at the Lima YMCA. The Marlins, with eight swimmers, were vastly outnumbered by the two larger teams, which had more than 50 swimmers.

Although small in number, the Marlins swimmers turned in a quality performance, finishing not lower than fifth in any event.

Finishing first were Emma Pollock (5); Risa Pollock (1); Addison Henkaline (1) and Aaron Stant (1).  The 11-12 girls’ relay team of Katie McVaigh, Risa Pollock, Addison Henkaline and Erin Miller finished second in both the 200 freestyle and medley relays.

On October 29, the Marlins traveled to Wapakoneta for the Wapakoneta Halloween Invitational, where nine teams with over 200 swimmers competed.

The Marlins’ seven swimmers again turned in a very respectable performance. Finishing first were Emma Pollock (2) and Katie McVaigh (2), while the 200 medley relay team of McVaigh, Risa Pollock, Addison Henkaline and Emma Pollock finished third, as did the 200 freestyle team of McVaigh. Risa Pollock, Jamie Burenga and Addison Henkaline.
