Robbery suspects nabbed; arson probed

On Friday, charges were filed on two Lima residents in connection with the robbery Tuesday of the Pak-A-Sak service station on North Washington Street in Van Wert.

Colt A. Morris, 24, has been charged with robbery, a felony of the third degree, while Ashley Woten, also 24, has been charged with complicity to commit robbery, also a felony of the third degree.

The charges are a result of a joint effort involving the Allen County (Ohio) Sheriff’s Department and the Decatur (Indiana) Police Department.

In addition, Van Wert Police are seeking information on what appears to be an arson fire that occurred in the 200 block of North Tyler Street on Thursday.

According to police reports, an officer from the VWPD was patrolling the area at 7:26 p.m. Thursday when he noticed a fire inside 214 N. Tyler St. The fire appeared to be deliberately set approximately 5-10 minutes prior to the officer’s arrival.

An arson Investigator from the Department of Commerce’s Division of State Fire Marshal’s Office was called in to investigate the incident.
