The Wassenberg Art Center has continued on a journey of growth and change through the support of its directors, employees, growing member base, sponsors and community. We are recently enjoyed our 22nd Annual Artist Member Exhibit & Sale sponsored by the Van Wert County Hospital and the Van Wert County Foundation. Live music, a cheese and wine tasting along with sweets helped us celebrate the impressive quality and quantity of art by our area artists. The artwork was judged by Garrett Dangler of Manhattan, and were presented during the festivities. This exhibit will continue through December 16 and offers unique, fun and reasonably priced gift options for the holidays. Stop by for a cup of coffee and a beautiful, calm

With growth come changes that are often bittersweet. In October, Office Manager, Kay Sluterbeck tendered her resignation and is looking forward to the freedom that will allow her to concentrate on her first passion, painting and art. Kay has served the Wassenberg Art Center for 23 years with diligence and consistent attention. We are happy she is remaining a part of the art center. Please congratulate and wish her the best in her new endeavors

Taking over the helm will be Brooke Lancey, Van Wert. Brooke brings to the center an art education, visual communications degree and a financial background. Brooke taught art for Defiance City Junior High, has worked in graphic design, paints, draws and enjoys interior design. We believe her energy, skills, sense of fun and bright smile will be a vital asset to the art center. Please stop in, introduce yourselves and welcome Brooke!

We will have our third ArtNight tonight from 6-8 p.m. ArtNight is a chance for artists and non-artists to get together for a time with peers to draw, paint or work with ceramics. One or more of our instructors will be on hand to offer guidance. ArtNight is free of charge with a free-will donation accepted for ceramic work. Your supplies and ideas are all that is required. Our structured class winter schedule will be coming out at the end of November with new offerings and core favorites.

This month’s Pencil for Pizza contest image is…Mona Lisa! We think Leonardo would love to see what all of you can do with your own interpretation of his classic painting. By December 1, submit your non-traced drawing on unlined 8.5” x 11” paper to the Wassenberg Art Center for a chance to win an any size/any kind pizza from Pizza Hut®. The winning drawing will be featured in the Times Bulletin and put on display at Pizza Hut®, Van Wert and is open to young people ages 5-18.
