Knights kick off second nine weeks

By Alec Heffner

Crestview seniors Holly Genth and Taylor Springer get bundled up to ring the Salvation Army bell outside Wal-Mart last Thursday night.

With one nine weeks under their belts, the students of Crestview look to continue their hard work into the second nine weeks.  Crestview’s Knight Vision program traveled to Ada last Saturday afternoon to compete in the annual Music Feast.   They contributed an outstanding effort at the competition.   Quintin Bouillon, for the second year in a row, received the top performer award for the squad.

In other news, the Crestview Model UN club took off this morning to compete at their first conference of the year, which takes place at the University of Dayton.   Students are assigned countries in which they research and debate various topics, competing against other schools.   The group hopes to gain high honors and bring home some hardware.  Along with Model UN, the Crestview FFA students traveled to Delphos Jefferson High School to engage in the Parliamentary Procedure competition today.  During the Parliamentary Procedure, teams conduct a mock chapter meeting to demonstrate their knowledge of basic parliamentary law and the correct use of parliamentary procedures.  Each team consists of six participants and the teams are scored as a group.  Junior Jake Harmon said, “It’s my first year doing it, and I’m really excited and anxious to see how it goes.  It should be a fun time.”

Crestview athletes, after wrapping up a wonderful fall season, are well underway into their winter sports.  The boys’ and girls’ basketball teams have been practicing for a couple weeks now preparing for the annual Tip-Off Classics, held at Van Wert High School.  The girls will be starting their season off against the Lady Cougars on November 26th, and as for the boys, they will be taking on their arch rivals, the Lincolnview Lancers, on December 2.  Don’t forget to purchase your season tickets to witness another great year of Crestview Basketball.

Students have also been getting in the spirit of Christmas by volunteering to ring the Salvation Army bell at local stores.  Students sign up for a time slot to work, usually an hour or two at a time, and welcome customers with a smile on their face.  The students have really done a great job getting involved.  Junior Darrian Hoerig said, “It’s a great opportunity for students to get involved and make a difference this holiday season.”  With Thanksgiving break on its way, the staff and students of Crestview would like to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving!
