Cougar girl bowlers defeat Ansonia

CELINA — On Saturday, November 19, the Van Wert Lady Cougars started their bowling season off at Plaza Lanes in Celina against the Ansonia Tigers.

After a slow start, losing their first regular game of bowling to the Tigers by 51 pins, Van Wert was able to regroup and head into the baker game with a 66-pin advantage. Ansonia won the first baker game by 4 pins with a 103 game to the Cougars’ 99-pin game, but once again the Cougars rolled well, winning the next game 182 to 144.

After that, the Lady Cougars never looked back as they won the next three baker games by scores of 173, 155, and 123, respectively, to win the match 2073 to 1849.

High rollers for the Cougars were senior Britany Myers with a 178 game, senior Rachel Dettrow with a 167 and junior Kylie Allenbaugh with games of 161 and 200. The Tigers were led by senior Shawna Meadows’ 184 game and junior Whitney Yeagle’s 171 game.

The Cougar girls bowl next on Saturday, November 26, at Community Lanes in Minster against the Coldwater Lady Cavaliers, starting at 10 a.m.
