Wassenberg open on Black Friday

By Hope Wallace

Yes. It’s happened. We are going to be open on Black Friday. And, no, we are not opening up at midnight. We will have coffee, beverages and warm, quiet galleries to roam at an unhurried pace. Come in and take a break, oh ye shop-weary and heavy-laden. We have artwork, pottery and glass for every taste and looking is free.  Become a member of the Wassenberg Art Center during your Black Friday visit on November 25 and you will receive a 10 percent discount off your new membership!

The current exhibit, sponsored by Van Wert County Hospital and the Van Wert County Foundation, runs through December 16, Tuesday–Sunday, 1–5 p.m.  The artists’ work on exhibit is truly a compliment to the Wassenberg Art Center and we are honored to be representing them.

If you feel like making a gift this year and are feeling a little nervous about undertaking the project, drop in at our Tuesday night ArtNight. We usually have several instructors or persons well versed in an array of creative areas who would be more than happy to assist you.  Our instructors have made items such as glass mosaic, silk painting (scarves, etc), drawing, painting, ceramics, paper maché, mask making, sculpting, woodworking and just about everything in between.  Care to try your hand at ceramics?  We are going to be firing up the kiln in the next week also. ArtNight! happens on every Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. Beginning December 7 from 10 a.m.-noon,  we’ll begin offering ArtMorning! on Wednesdays and November 30 will begin Sally Geething’s Beginning Oil Painting Class. The re-workability of oil paint and Sally’s dynamic instruction technique is an equation for fun! A few openings are still available if you’re interested in signing up.

Lastly, don’t forget, if you are 5-18 years old, the Pencil-for-Pizza contest deadline is December 1. We want to see your rendition of Mona Lisa! Submit your non-traced drawing on unlined 8.5” x 11” paper to the Wassenberg Art Center for a chance to win an any size/any kind pizza from Pizza Hut®. The winning drawing will be featured in the Times Bulletin and put on display at Pizza Hut®.
