VW swimmers compete at Napoleon

NAPOLEON — The Cougar swim team visited Napoleon for the annual Wildcat invitational involving 18 high schools.  Van Wert girls finished 11th overall and the boys took sixth place. Host Napoleon took first place for both boys and girls.  Other schools in the meet included:  Ada, Akron Archbishop Hoban, Archbold, Bryan, Celina, Coldwater, Elida, Hicksville, Lima Bath, Lima Central Catholic, Marion Local, Maumee, North Union, Ottawa Glandorf, Toledo Central Catholic and Wapakoneta.

In the dive meet, Kase Schalois placed third and Josh Overholt placed seventh for the Cougar boys. Kaylee Meyers represented the Cougar girls and placed 12th.

Girls scoring individually in swimming were Taylor Grooms in the 200-yard freestyle (sixth) and in the 100-yard backstroke (14th) and Karlyn Koontz in the 200-yard individual medley (15th).

Boys scoring individually included:  Eric Easley in the 200-yard individual medley (second), AJ Foster in the 50-yard freestyle (10th) and the 100-yard freestyle (15th), Trey Stemen in the 100-yard breaststroke (11th) and the 100-yard butterfly (13th), Cody Hanes in the 100-yard breaststroke (12th) and the 100-yard butterfly (14th) and Matt Cucciarre in the 500-yard freestyle (13th)

Scoring girls relays placed ninth in the 200-yard medley (Hannah Stemen, Karlyn Koontz, Taylor Grooms, Briana Agler) and 1oth in the 400-yard freestyle (Brittany Jurczyk, Hannah Stemen, Holly Hammond, Taylor Grooms).

Scoring boys’ relays placed third (Cody Hanes, Eric Easley, Trey Stemen, AJ Foster) and ninth (Matt Cucciarre, Daniel Silette, Kase Schalois, Adam Jurczyk) in the 200-yard medley ; third (AJ Foster, Trey Stemen, Cody Hanes, Eric Easley) and  15th (Jon Lisa, , Kory Schlatter, Josh Overholt, Jacob Scheidt) in the 200-yard freestyle; and ninth (Kase Schalois, Adam Jurczyk, Dan Silette, Matt Cucciarre) in the 400-yard freestyle.

The VWHS swim team returns to action on Tuesday when they host Marion Local.
