Cougar swimmers win triple dual meet

LIMA — On Saturday, the Van Wert High School boys and girls swim teams travelled to the Lima YMCA to compete with Elida, Lima Bath and St. Marys Memorial. This meet was scored as a triple dual. Both Cougar teams successfully defeated all three other schools. Boys’ scores: Lima Bath 57-37, St. Marys Memorial 52-41 and Elida 69-17.  Girls’ scores: Elida 80-9, St. Marys Memorial 67-27, and Lima Bath 47-46.

Other boys’ results were St. Marys over Lima Bath 47-45, St. Marys over Elida 55-20, and Lima Bath over Elida 65.5-19.5. Girls’ results were Lima Bath over St. Marys 64-30, St. Marys over Elida 71-21, and Lima Bath over Elida 72-17.

Van Wert swimmers placing first overall included: Eric Easley (200 individual medley and 500 freestyle), Cody Hanes (100 butterfly), Trey Stemen (200 freestyle) and Erin Dingle (100 backstroke).

first place relays were the boys 400 freestyle with members Cody Hanes, Kase Schalois, Trey Stemen, Eric Easley and the girls 200 medley with members Hannah Semen, Brittany Jurczyk Erin Dingle, Taylor Grooms.

Senior Taylor Grooms said, “It’s always good and fun when the cougars come out the winners!”

The Cougars are back in action on Tuesday when they host Coldwater.
