Retiring L’view board members honored

The Lincolnview Local School District honored two retiring board members during its December board meeting held Tuesday in the district conference room.

Superintendent Doug Fries presented Board President Ron Davis, a board member for the past 20 years, and Board member Alan Morris, who has 16 years on the board, with desk clocks and certificates honoring them for their board service.

“I would like to sincerely thank both Mr. Davis and Mr. Morris for your dedication and service to Lincolnview,” Fries said. “Your dedication has been outstanding to our students, our staff, our community, our parents … I also appreciate the support you have given me as a superintendent.

“I wish both of you the best of luck in all your future endeavors,” Fries said, adding, “Our school district is a better place because of the service that you’ve given this district.”

Tony Campbell, president of the Lincolnview Local Education Association, also gave Davis and Morris plaques from the teachers union recognizing them for their service to the district.

As part of Tuesday’s meeting, Eric Germann was appointed president pro-tempore for the board’s organizational meeting, which will be held Tuesday, January 10, 2012. Sally Snyder was reappointed to represent Lincolnview on the Vantage Board of Education.

The board also approved Treasurer Troy Bowersock’s brief financial report and also accepted donations from The Van Wert County Foundation for the Lincolnview music department and from the Klein Trust for needy students.

In other action, the board:

  • Accepted, with thanks, a $100 donation from the Van Wert solid Waste Management District, through the County Auditor’s Office.
  • Approved a contract with Energy Solutions Group to provide energy services.
  • Authorized a one-year contract for Alan Breece as a bus driver and substitute custodian for the remainder of the 2011-2012 school year.
  • Approved hiring the following: Linda Springer as a substitute cook, Angela Bowers as a substitute bus driver, Margie Knott as a shuttle route bus driver, and Sharon Brincefield to drive buses to Rodoc Inc. for repair.
  • Recognized choir directors Stacie Korte and Jennifer Slusher and band director Anna Battle and students involved in the holiday concerts.
  • Accepted the resignation of Dan Bulau as set coordinator for high school plays.
  • Reviewed written reports from High School-Junior High Principal Kelly Dye and Elementary Principal Gordon Stemen.
  • Went into executive session to discuss personnel items, with no action taken afterward.

The next meeting of the Lincolnview Local Board of Education will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, January 10, 2012, in the district conference room.
