Clay named new VW Foundation trustee

The Van Wert County Foundation elected Gary L. Clay as a new trustee. Clay is president and director of Van Wert Federal Savings Bank and also serves as secretary for the Van Wert County Hospital Board of Directors, vice president of the Van Wert Business Development Board, is an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church and is a 50-year member of the YMCA.
Clay and his wife, Melissa, have four children: Erica, Lydia, Laura, and Drew. The Clays reside in Van Wert.
In addition to electing a new trustee, Executive Secretary Larry L. Wendel reported the following action from The Foundation’s semiannual meeting held December 13.
During 2011 there have been seven new donor funds accepted. They include:
- The Van Wert Tennis Complex Fund
- Iberdrola Renewables Scholarship Fund
- The Ray Etzler Scholarship Fund
- The John R. and Mary L. Moore Scholarship Fund
- The NPAC Orchestra Shell Fund
- The NPAC Capital Improvement Fund
- The Associated Charities Fund
Wendel also reported that The Foundation has approved and distributed approximately $1,695,363 to various agencies throughout Van Wert, Paulding and Allen counties. This figure includes over $300,000 for college scholarships affecting 235 students.
The Foundation continues to affect the lives of many people and organizations in Van Wert and surrounding areas through these difficult economic times through donations been made possible by the many people who have established donor funds over the past 86 years. The funds are held in perpetuity, with the income only used for philanthropic purposes.
