VW boys 2nd, girls 8th in diving tourney

Van Wert YMCA was the site of the third annual Van Wert Holiday Diving Invitational. During the competition, 19 girls and 12 boys completed 11 different dives from the 1-meter board.  Schools participating were Botkins, Bryan, Celina, Coldwater, Kettering Fairmont, Oregon Clay, Ottawa-Glandorf, St. Marys Memorial, and Van Wert.

Logan Bauer from Botkins won the boys event with 419.25 points, while second place went to Collin Byer of Celina with 376.35 points. Van Wert diver Kase Schalois finished third with 335.05 points, breaking his previous VWHS record of 328.25 points set last February. Garrett McDowell of Van Wert finished eighth with 243.1 points. As a team, the Cougar boys placed second to Celina.

Megan Siford of Oregon Clay won the girls’ event, followed by Olivia Schlatter of Celina. Gretchen Klinker finished 15th in the girls’ completion with 185.05 points. Celina won the team competition followed by Coldwater. Van Wert finished eighth.
