CONVOY – The Crestview Knights used the two middle quarters to down Delphos St. John’s, 55-50, in a non-conference match-up Wednesday in Ray Etzler Gymnasium.

Although the Blue Jays’ top scorer, Curtis Geise, led everyone with 20 points, Crestview got balanced scoring, with three players in double figures on the night, led by Dallis Gibson’s 14 points. Damian Helm added 13 points, while AJ Etzler scored 12 points for the Knights. Geise was aided by Ryan Buescher, who scored 13 points for St. John’s.

The Blue Jays led by a basket, 12-10, at the end of the first quarter, but Crestview rallied in the second stanza, outscoring St. John’s 18-13 to go up by three points, 28-25, at the half. The Knights continued their offensive output in the third period, outpointing the Jays 17-13 for a seven-point lead, 45-48, heading into the final quarter of play.

Delphos took the final period, 12-10, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Knights’ lead.

Crestview shot 47.6 percent from the field (20 of 42) and was 11 of 17 at the free throw line (64.7 percent). The Blue Jays hit 20 of 45 from the field (44.4 percent) and were 8 of 13 from the charity stripe (61.5 percent).

St. John’s dominated the boards, bringing down 27 rebounds (12 offensive) to 15 for the Knights (5 offensive). Crestview kept a better handle on the ball, though, making 11 miscues to 20 turnovers for the Jays.

With the win, the Knights are now 6-1 overall and 1-1 in league play, while St. John’s is 3-2 overall and 1-0 in the Midwest Athletic Conference.
