Van Wert Police Lt. Doug Weigle, Van Wert County Crime Stoppers coordinator, has released yearly statistics for the program.
During 2011, a total of 42 tips were received on the Crime Stoppers tip line (419.238.STOP), resulting in six cases being cleared and the arrest of seven people. Of those arrested, six were adults and one was a juvenile.
A total of $1,650 in rewards was authorized for payment to tipsters during the year.
The category of crimes solved as the result of 2011 Crime Stoppers tips included one narcotics case, three theft cases and one wanted fugitive case.
Crime Stoppers has been in existence in Van Wert County since 1987 and has received 435 tips and been responsible for clearing 144 criminal cases and the arrest of 128 persons during that time. Tips have resulted in the recovery of just over $75,000 in stolen property and the seizure of $1,700 in narcotics.
Persons with information about an unsolved crime or wanted fugitive are urged to call Crime Stoppers at the above telephone number. Callers will not have to give their name or reveal their identity. If the information helps to solve a criminal case or results in the arrest of a wanted fugitive Crime Stoppers will pay tipsters a cash reward.
