Richard Shultz

Richard “Dick” Shultz, 77, of Van Wert, died at 5:11 p.m. Tuesday, January 10, 2012, at his residence.

He was born July 5, 1934, in Fostoria, the son of the late Richard and Blanche (Lamberjack) Shultz. On August 31, 1957, he married Helen (Ellerbrock) Shultz, who preceded him in death on January 27, 1975. On August 2, 1985, he married Trina (Gamble) Shultz, who survives.

Mr. Shultz was a Certified Public Accountant for Shultz, Huber & Associates. He was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Van Wert for 52 years and served as both lector and Eucharistic minister, belonged to the St. Vincent DePaul Society, was a St. Mary’s School Board member and served on the church Finance Committee for numerous years. He was a Little League baseball coach for 13 years, a member of the former Van Wert Sertoma Club, served 21 years on Van Wert City Council, was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Van Wert Area Jaycees, Van Wert Elks Lodge 1197, was a director of First Federal Savings & Loan Association, former interim Van Wert economic development director, a hospice volunteer through Community Health Professionals (was hospice “volunteer of the year”), and received the Van Wert Area Chamber of Commerce’s Ray Miller Award.

In addition to his wife, survivors include seven children, Randy (Vickie) Shultz of Brookfield, Wis., Rhonda (Ray) Thomas of Owasso, Okla., Ron Shultz of Indianapolis, Ind., Rodney Shultz of Minster, Tomi (Steve) Jaycox and Doug (Tammie) Weigle, both of Van Wert, and Jessica (Tony) Thornton of Xenia; three brothers, Gerald (Charlene) Shultz of Fostoria, Thomas (Marcie) Shultz of East Granby, Conn., and Edward (Joyce) Shultz of Sylvania; two sisters, Eleanor (Mel) Householder of Findlay and Betty Sendelbach of Fostoria; a sister-in-law, Louise Shultz of Findlay; 14 grandchildren, Ashley, Joshua, Elizabeth, Steven, Margaret, Scott, Richard, Kyle, Demi, Alexis, Trevor, Jenna, Connor and Addison; 13 nieces; and 14 nephews.

A brother, David Shultz; and one brother-in-law, Pat Sendelbach, also preceded him in death.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 14, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Van Wert. Private family burial will take place at Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert.

Calling hours are from 2-8 p.m. Friday, January 13, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory in Van Wert, where a wake will be held at 7 that evening.
