Kenneth Wayne Short
Kenneth Wayne “Kenny” Short, 54, of Van Wert, died at 12:08 a.m. Friday, January 13, 2012.
He was born January 15, 1957, in Van Wert, the son of the late Elmer “Barney” and Florence (DuVall) Short.

Kenny was a lifelong member of North Union United Methodist Church and was a 1975 graduate of Crestview High School. He was a 33-year employee of Eaton (Aeroquip), was the owner of Murphy’s Trash, a 36-year owner of the Farmer’s Daughter Restaurant on the Van Wert County Fairgrounds and a property manager for Van Wert Rental Homes. He donated his time and assets to the Van Wert County Fairgrounds, Van Wert County 4-H, Crestview FFA and many other charitable organizations in the county. Kenny and his brother, Roger, dedicated over 75 combined years in owning and operating the Farmer’s Daughter Restaurant. Kenny enjoyed all his time with anyone he met or worked alongside at the fairgrounds.
Survivors include two brothers, Carl (Christi) Short and Tom (Sharon) Short, both of Van Wert; a sister, Clara (Dan) Konkle of Heber Springs, Ark.; one sister-in-law, Mary Short of Van Wert; seven nephews, Spencer (Joy) Short and Tim (Courtney) Short, both of Convoy Jeff (Leigh) Short and Colton Short of Van Wert, Michael Konkle, David Konkle and Doug Konkle of Arkansas; four nieces, Lacey (Ed) McLachlan of Columbus and Lori (Cory) Bryan, Jennifer Short and Sara Short, all of Van Wert; and many great-nieces and nephews.
A brother, Roger, also preceded him in death.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 17, at North Union United Methodist Church in rural Van Wert County, with the Rev. Mary Ann Tomlinson and Rev. Greg Wack officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery at a later date.
Calling hours are from 2-8 p.m. Monday, January 16, at Brickner Funeral Home in Van Wert.
