Cougar swimmers defeat Ayersville

AYERSVILLE — The Van Wert Cougar girls and boys swim teams were both winners, as they took on the Pilots at Ayersville in a dual meet. Van Wert girls scored 102 points to Ayersville’s 59 and the boys scored 102 points to Ayersville’s 58.

Van Wert swimmers placing first in individual events included: Taylor Grooms (200-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke), Eric Easley (100-yard butterfly and 100-yard backstroke), Erin Dingle and Matt Cucciarre (200-yard individual medley), Brittany Jurczyk and Cody Hanes (100-yard breaststroke), Holly Hammond (500-yard freestyle), and Katelyn Koontz (100-yard butterfly).

The boys’ team swept all three relays: 200-yard medley (Hanes, Trey Stemen, Kase Schalois, Cucciarre), 200-yard freestyle (Stemen, Hanes, AJ Foster, Easley), and 400-yard freestyle (Schalois, Adam Jurczyk, Daniel Silette, Easley).

Relay winners for the Van Wert girls were the 200-yard medley (Hannah Stemen, Jurczyk, Dingle, Grooms) and the 400-yard freestyle (Jurczyk, Meredith Arn, Andi Foster, Grooms).

The Cougar swimmers return to action next Tuesday when they travel to Defiance.
