William A. Carpenter Sr.

William A. Carpenter Sr., 65, of Haviland, died at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, January 21, 2012, at his residence.

He was born August 12, 1946, in Continental, the son of the late James L. and Maggie E. (Scott) Carpenter. He married Jeannie A. (Timbers) Carpenter, who survives in Haviland.

Other survivors include four children, Sherry Moyer of Van Wert, Linda Moyer of Decatur, Ind., and Crystal (Marty Thompson) Carpenter and Samantha Carpenter, both of Convoy; four brothers, Rodger (Jerri) Carpenter, Danny (Rhonda) Carpenter and Ty Carpenter, all of Payne, and Scott (Linda) Carpenter of Convoy; three sisters, Rebecca (Bud) Conley of Payne, Patsy Mayers of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Robin (Lee Eaton) Carpenter of Decatur; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Two sons, William A. Carpenter II and William A. Carpenter III; and a sister, Minerva Carpenter, also preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 25, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory in Van Wert, with the Rev. Steve Waterman officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert, with graveside military honors performed by the combined honors units of American Legion Post 178 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5803, both of Van Wert.

Calling hours are from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, January 24, at the funeral home.
