Clarence G. Jurczyk

Clarence G. “Larry” Jurczyk, 77, of Amherst, passed away at his residence on the evening of Saturday, February 25, 2012, following an illness  of seven months.

He was born April 23, 1934, in Lorain, the son of the late John and Sophia (Niznik) Jurczyk. He has been a resident of Amherst since 1976. He was married for 51 ½ years to Gertrude (Jara) Jurczyk, who survives in Amherst.

Larry was employed as a metallurgical analyst and subsequently as a parts manager at United States Steel Corporation’s Lorain-Cuyahoga Works. He retired in 1983 following a career that spanned 28 years with the steel producer.

He was a longtime parishioner of the former St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Lorain. He was a skilled artisan of stained glass who previously enjoyed league bowling with the St. Stanislaus Holy Name Society. A graduate of St. Bonaventure High School in Sturtevant, Wis., he was a veteran of the United States Army, where he fulfilled duty assignments as a Specialist 4 attached to the 16th Engineers Battalion.

In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Tim (Michelle) Jurczyk of Van Wert; three daughters, Annie (John Jansen) Jurczyk of Milwaukee, Wis., Bonnie (Tim) Secrest of Lexington (Ohio) and Chris (Eric) Brugler of Warren; a brother, Eugene (Evelyn) Jursek, M.D., and 13 grandchildren.

A sister, Genevieve Given, also preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be begin at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday, February 29, in Nativity B.V.M. Catholic Church, 333 S. Lake Ave., South Amherst, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11 that morning, with Father Gerald J. Keller, pastor emeritus of St. Adalbert Catholic Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.

Calling hours are from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, February 28, at Giuvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain.
