Broadway comes to the NPAC

This Saturday, one of the biggest shows to ever come to the NPAC will be presented: Fiddler on the Roof.  I imagine many people have seen this blockbuster and classic Broadway show, but you may not have seen it like this.  Although this production has been touring for some time, it will be the last time to tour at this magnitude of a production.  I was told in New York this January that it will be going on tour next year as a downsized production.  A new company will be taking the show from four semi-trucks down to one.  The production you can see in Van Wert this Saturday is four full semi-trucks of production. As a matter of fact, this production is so large, we need to bring in a generator in to help power everything.

The only other show of this magnitude we have ever presented at the NPAC is Annie about three years ago in 2009. We sold one show out and so have now scheduled two performances of Fiddler on the Roof.  Now that we have two shows, there are some tickets remaining for each show, although they may be getting picked over pretty well.  Almost every seat is a good one, so you might even be able to come the day of and get a ticket if you decide at the last moment to come.  Live Broadway musicals in Van Wert on Saturday, “Whoduh ever thunk it?”!

Most are familiar with the story of Fiddler on the Roof, but it’s like a real good movie; you forget much of the detail and enjoy it even more the second and third time around.  And we all know that live is much better than video. Please make note that the two show times this Saturday are 2 and 7 p.m.  Don’t come at our regular time of 7:30 p.m. for the evening show.  You will miss 30 minutes. There will be an intermission, so you will get your money’s worth on this one.

The music is live too, so take a peak down in the pit.  It’s always interesting to see how and where the music comes from these days with touring Broadway shows.

Don’t forget to pick up your tickets for the U.S. Navy Sea Chanters, the official chorus of the United States Navy. They will be performing at the NPAC on Wednesday, March 7, at 7:30 p.m. (our regular evening time!). I have a CD of theirs and I know they will give a very entertaining and inspirational concert. As a bonus, if you come early, the Crestview High School “Knight Vision” show choir will be performing in the Upper Lobby before the concert.  We thank them and their director, Danille Hancock, for providing this pre-concert entertainment.

Tickets for the Sea Chanters may be obtained free of charge from the NPAC box office or at the Times Bulletin on Fox Road in Van Wert. The Times-Bulletin is also our sponsor for the Sea Chanters and we are grateful for their support of the U.S. Navy and the NPAC!

FINÉ.
