Springtime for Crestview
By Shelby Ripley

Here in Knight Country, students and faculty are gearing up for their own version of March Madness. “The year went well, considering the role we had young blood assume on this team. We gained a huge momentum in the last couple weeks,” said senior Dallis Gibson about his final basketball season. Bringing another successful basketball season under wraps with tournament is not the only resemblance the Academy bears with the NCAA. As one season of sports comes to a close, another bountiful event season has made its debut.
Spring fever has caught hold of this season’s athletes and coaches alike, encouraging them to get out in the temperate weather and push for some quality conditioning. Head track & field coach, Mr. James Lautzenheiser, embodied this year’s focus: “I think that our program’s goal is to make sure we present conditioning as more of an appropriated technique than a boot camp. We’re trying to break the mold of that mentality [with] circuit-based exercises to promote active recovery and fast twitch muscle fibers.” The lights in the gyms will not be out just yet, as baseball and softball take advantage of the wetter days with some hitting, throwing, and catching drills.
Sure to drive some to near hysteria and others to well-deserved relaxation are next week’s OGTs. Sophomores have been putting in the time to achieve test-taking proficiency and their mentors about the school have been in constant support. “I think we’ve put a lot of effort into preparing. We’ve had a lot of intervention into Knight Time of both individuals and groups,” explained guidance counselor, Mr. Dave Springer. While the 10th graders are at play with their tests, the freshmen will be administered OGT prep in their rooms and the upperclassmen will be basking in their accomplishment from the comfort of their homes.
Saturday marks the end of competition Knight Vision as well. Crestview will go against both small and large mixed choirs for six spots in the evening finals. Knight Vision still has Dinner Theatre and POPS concert coming up in the near future.
