After several years of planning, a building and renovation project has been approved and a capital campaign underway for St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, located at the corner of Washington and Sycamore streets.
The remodeling and new addition will provide a renovated youth room, multi-purpose gathering space, a handicap unisex restroom and refurbished committee meeting room. The new areas will be incorporated on the southwest corner of the education complex.
Construction is scheduled to begin this spring. The general contractor will be Michael Kinder and Sons of Fort Wayne, Ind., with Stanley Schumm Builders of Van Wert renovating the meeting room and youth room.
Through the generosity of St. Mark’s members and friends, both past and present, the monetary goal for the project has been reached. A celebration meal was held at the church this past Sunday to acknowledge this accomplishment.
The goal of the project, entitled “Building on our Future Faith,” is to increase the effectiveness and vibrancy of St. Mark’s servanthood to the community and the congregation, and to follow its calling of bringing people closer to God.
Sunday worship is 8 and 10:30 a.m., with education hour for all ages at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday children and youth gatherings are held at 6:30 p.m. Further information about St. Mark’s can be found at its website: www.stmarkslutheranvw.com.
