Time is running out to view the Ohio Watercolor Society exhibit which ends on March 25 at 5 p.m. These watercolors leap off the walls with astounding color, and hail from all over the state of Ohio and beyond. The Ohio Watercolor Society, based in Zanesville, chooses several of its award winning pieces to become part of their traveling exhibit in order to share the talents of our artists with other Ohioans. If you haven’t made plans to visit, you may want to very soon, as their time is short here at the Wassenberg!

Our next exhibit, running from April 21 through May 12, will feature some of the best of our very own young artists. The Wassenberg Art Center is announcing a resurrected tradition, the Wassenberg Art Center High School Invitational. We’ve invited area high schools within an approximate 35 mile radius to submit works from some of their intriguing artists to compete in a competition worth cash prizes. We enthusiastically encourage these high schools and their art teachers to prompt art students to prepare and submit their work to this juried competition. We are extremely excited to begin promoting the future of our culture through creative expression.

Our new quarter of classes and the start of our summer camps will be announced soon, so stay tuned to your local paper, our website or facebook. You may also give us a call or email us and we can send you a schedule when they become available. Mask making from found objects, claymation, ceramics among others are just the beginning of our camp themes this year!

Our call for entries went out last week for the Wassenberg Art Center’s 56th Annual June Art Exhibit which is held June 9 through June 29. If you are on our mailing list, you should be receiving your copy soon. If you would like to know more about this prestigious juried exhibit opportunity, please give us a call and we’ll send you a prospectus. This year our opening reception and awards ceremony on June 9 will be accompanied by an acoustic performance by the Reese Dailey Band. RDB is a favorite band of the Put-In-Bay area, throughout Ohio and southeast Michigan.  Many of the band’s four members have helped provide music for television and film and are accomplished musicians. Along with great food, craft beer, wine tasting and exceptional area art you can guarantee we’ll have a good time. We’d love to have you as a Wassenberg Art Center member, however we want everyone to be able to enjoy this celebration of local art. This reception is open to the public.  We’re looking forward to seeing you there!

Don’t forget! You can purchase one of the Wassenberg Camera Club discount cards here for a mere $5. All proceeds benefit the Wassenberg Camera Club. Also, now you can see the results of their monthly competition online on the Camera Club page. These photographers are simply amazing. Check it out!
