Congressional Art Competition now on

BOWLING GREEN — U.S. Representative Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) announces the 2012 Congressional Art Competition. The competition is open to all high school students who reside in the Fifth Congressional District.

“The Congressional Art Competition is an excellent opportunity for high school students from our district to showcase their artistic ability,” Latta said. “I look forward to seeing our district’s creative talent represented in the Congressional hallway in the Capitol.”

The artwork must be submitted by April 11. Applicants can drop off their application and artwork to one of the district offices, which are located at 1045 N. Main Street, Suite 6, in Bowling Green; 101 Clinton St., Suite 1200 in Defiance; and 11 E. Main St. in Norwalk. District staff is also available to obtain artwork from students. To arrange a pick up time, contact the Defiance office at 419.782.1996.

Winners will be announced on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at Owens Community College’s Center for Fine and Performing Arts, Walter E. Terhune Gallery.  The selected artwork will be displayed in the Capitol from June 2012 to June 2013.

Artwork categories are as follows:

  • Paintings: oil, acrylics, watercolor, etc.
  • Drawings: pastels, colored pencil, pencil, charcoal, ink, markers
  • Collage: must be two-dimensional
  • Prints: lithographs, silkscreen, block prints
  • Mixed Media: use of more than two mediums such as pencil, ink, etc.
  • Computer generated art
  • Photography
