Information submitted

Three members of the YMCA Marlins traveled to Canton this past weekend to compete at the YMCA Great Lakes Zones (Regionals) where more than 1,500 swimmers from six states competed.

Van Wert’s Katie McVaigh was seeded 19th with a time of 35.20 in the 10 & Under Girls 50-yard backstroke and finished 14th out of 32 swimmers with a time of 34.83, an improvement of five places and nearly a half second on her time.

Sam Easley continued his domination of the 11-12 Boys Division on Saturday by finishing 10th in the 200-yard freestyle, third in the 50-yard backstroke and first in the 50-yard freestyle. His 50-yard freestyle time of 24.05 just missed the Zone record by half a second. On Sunday, Sam continued his pace by placing first in the 100-yard freestyle in 53.62, fourth in the 50-yard butterfly with a time of 27.67 and second in the 100-yard backstroke in 1.02.22.

Eric Easley competed and in the 15 & Over Boys division fared well, finishing 10th in the 100-yard backstroke in 55.68, 18th in the 50-yard backstroke in 26.49, 19th in the 50-yard breaststroke in 29.54 and 45th in the 50-yard freestyle in 23.68.

As a team, the Marlins, with just the three competing swimmers, finished in 41st place out of 82 teams competing.

The Marlins will hold their 2011-12 banquet Thursday, March 29, at St Mary’s Catholic School.
