Local man stabbed during home invasion

MIDDLE POINT – The Van Wert County Sheriff’s Department is looking two young men in connection with a home invasion burglary and stabbing that took place in Ridge Township early this morning.

The sheriff’s department received a call at approximately 2:25 a.m. Sunday from the victim in the case, Daniel Hemker, 27, of 12734 Dog Creek Road.

Hemker reported a burglary at his house and also said he had been stabbed in the incident. Hemker was taken to Van Wert County Hospital by the Middle Point EMS squad, and later life-flighted to Lutheran Hospital of Indiana in Fort Wayne as a precaution. He was treated at Lutheran and later released.

According to Hemker’s description, the suspects are both white males, one of them approximately 6-1 in height and weighing between 180 and 190 pounds, and the other between 5-7 and 5-8 and weighing 240-250 pounds.

Both men were believed to be in their 20s and were wearing blue jeans and black sweatshirts.

Crime scene investigators from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation — an agency administered by the Ohio Attorney General’s Office — were on the scene today and county detectives are continuing to investigate.
