Laugh on the Capitol Steps

I am really looking forward to this Saturday’s version of Community Concerts at the Niswonger Performing Arts Center. It features a comedic musical show by the Capitol Steps. I know many of you know of them because I have heard rave reviews from some of you who have heard and seen them.

The Capitol Steps actually began in 1981 when a group of workers on Capitol Hill met at a Christmas party for former Senator Charles Percy.  It seems that even our politicians can laugh at themselves, even if it’s behind closed doors.  With Capitol Steps, the doors will be open and we can all laugh at some of the “insanity” of our American politics.

Just to give you a little flavor of what you might experience this Saturday at the NPAC, the program states that the material is constantly changing, based on the scandal of the day!  But you might see a few of these … “Liberal Shop of Horrors”, “Secret Kenyan Man”, “Battle Hymn of the Tea Party”,  “What Kind of Fuel Am I?” and many, many more.

It’s actually a little sad that they have so much material to work with, but I guess laughing at our American politicians has gone on for a long time.  So, since it’s a reality, we might as well get a laugh out of it.  And like I said, behind closed doors, they often laugh at themselves.  What else can you do, sometimes?

There are some tickets remaining for this Community Concert, although they are selling fast this week.  We have groups coming from Fort Wayne, Toledo and other parts of the region.  Capitol Steps are in big demand as entertainment for conferences throughout the U.S.  Call the box office (419.238.NPAC 1743) or take a chance at the door Saturday night. The program starts at 7:30 p.m.

Although we are busy putting the final touches on next year’s big Fifth Year Anniversary Season at the NPAC, I am also very excited to announce the 2012 Fountain Park Summer Music Series real soon.  I hope to do this within the week. You are going to really enjoy the fun concerts in the park this summer.  In case you are wondering, the series will have concerts most Friday nights, starting at 7 p.m. beginning June 1 through August 10.  The only Fridays without a concert are June 22, July 6 and August 3. Those would make great travel weekends for you.

Watch the newspapers and on-line for the big announcement.  You can also Facebook Fountain Park Summer Music Series or check the NPAC website: www.npacvw.org for all the details.

I am still receiving names of non-profit organizations to serve food for the summer concerts.  Call our office (419.238.1743) at The Van Wert County Foundation to be included in the drawing on April 2.

FINÉ.
