YMCA hosting Spring Fitness 5K event

The YMCA of Van Wert County will be holding its Spring Fitness 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, April 21, at YMCA Camp Clay, 9196 Liberty Union Road in Van Wert.  The run/walk will begin its 3.1-mile loop at 8:30 a.m. Course updates, including mile markers and a finish timer will still be in place, as well as an addition of cash prizes for overall male and female winners, thanks to a sponsorship by Quick Lane Tire and Auto Center.

“We are excited to be able to offer prize money to the top two runners in the male and female divisions.  Top runner in each division will receive $100, second place will receive $50,” stated Julie Schaufelberger, Y wellness director.

An additional $100 is available as bonus winnings if either the top male or female breaks the “challenge time” set for the 3.1 flat course record.

“Something else new we are offering this year is a free breakfast provided by Bob Evans for all who are pre-registered,” Schaufelberger.

The breakfast will be held in the pavilion immediately following the race.

Race registration forms are available at the front desk of the Y, online under events at www.vwymca.org or by emailing julie@vwymca.org. Pre-registration is due by Tuesday, April 10.  Pre-registration is $20, which includes a t-shirt, or $15 without a t-shirt.  On-site registration will also be available at the event, starting at 7:30 a.m.  On-site registration is $20, with no t-shirt.

Age group awards will also be given following the event.  All proceeds from the event will be used for fitness equipment updates in the YMCA fitness center and weight room.
