Lancer softball team downs Lima Perry

LIMA — The Lincolnview Lancer softball team traveled to Lima Perry Tuesday evening to face the Abbie Patton led Commodores.  Patton, the fireball hurler, was sporting a perfect 4-0 pitching record coming into the contest.  Lincolnview put a notch in their win column while ending Patton’s perfect mark season to date.

The Lancers wasted no time as Jodie Doner ripped a triple down the line to start the top of the first. Doner scored on a Macey Ashbaugh fielder’s choice and Lincolnview led 1-0 early. Lima Perry tallied a quick two in the bottom half as Patton reached on an error and Flower and Rehig laced a couple of RBI singles to give the home squad a 2-1 advantage.

Patton again got things started as she tripled to right center to lead off the bottom of the third. She scored on a single by Baugh to increase the lead to 3-1 after three. The Lancers answered in the top of the fourth as Kelsey Mohr ripped a triple to the 245-foot left center field gap and scored on a double to the same area by Carly Springer. Patton pitched herself out of the jam and still held a 3-2 advantage after four innings of play.

The fifth inning provided some scoring by both teams, as Lincolnview’s Morgan Peel led off the inning with a shot up the middle.  Baylee Neate followed with an infield single to put runners at first and second.  Jodie Doner promptly deposited a two-RBI double to the gap in left center. Doner swiped third and scored on a single from Ashbaugh. Springer blooped a double to right center with Patton striking out two to end the inning as Lincolnview took a 5-3 lead into the bottom half of the fifth.

Perry answered with three runs of its own as Patton again led off with an opposite field single. An error provided runners at second and third, with Rehig delivering a two-run single. Rehig scored on a sac fly to center to retake the lead 6-5 through five.

Both pitchers set down the lineup in the sixth and that set up the final inning, which Lincolnview took advantage of.

In the top of the seventh, Ashbaugh battled through a 3-2 count for a single to lead off the inning.  Mohr followed with a hard shot to center, while Springer collected her third hit of the day with an RBI single.  Lauren Calvert collected a hustle infield single, while Devann Springer collected a two-RBI clutch single to right. In total, Lincolnview plated four big runs to take a 9-6 lead to the bottom.

Ashley McClure induced a ground out to second, a walk, and a smooth double play ball to Morgan Peel to finish off the game for the win.

With the win, Lincolnview goes to 3-2, while Perry drops to 4-1.
