Family to present lighthouse at CHP event

The family of the late Richard “Dick” Dunlap will present a decorative lighthouse in honor of families served by Community Health Professionals’ Hospice, at CHP’s annual “Beacon of Hope” dinner/auction on April 12, starting at 6 p.m. at Willow Bend Country Club.
Dunlap was a lifetime farmer, salesman, Jackson Township clerk and Van Wert County commissioner. He was a life member of Zion Christian Union Church in Grover Hill, American Legion Post 178, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5803 and Middle Point Lions Club. He was a volunteer for American Red Cross and loved sports. He was involved with many local teams, and the Lincolnview Schools especially. Dunlap was cared for by CHP’s in-home and inpatient hospice programs prior to his death in September 2011.
The Dunlap family’s lighthouse will be displayed at the Van Wert Area Inpatient Hospice Center, along with those presented in past years. The lighthouse symbolizes the hope, comfort and support provided by hospice when a loved one is facing a life-limiting illness.
The Beacon of Hope dinner/auction is the main fundraising event for CHP’s hospice program and is an evening of remembrance and fun. The event will be emceed this year by well-known Lima sportscaster Vince Koza of Maverick Media, host of “Sports Talk with Koza” on 93.1-FM, The Fan. Local realtor/auctioneer Bob Gamble will conduct the auction.
The event includes both live and silent auction items and concludes with a cash raffle drawing for $1,000; $500 and $250 prizes. Tickets for the dinner/auction are $20 each and raffle tickets are $1 each, six for $5, or 15 for $10. Tickets are available at Community Health Professionals, 1159 Westwood Drive in Van Wert. Deadline for dinner reservations is Friday.
Items in the auction this year include products and services, sports memorabilia, vacation timeshares, dining and services gift certificates, hotel stays, getaway packages, gift baskets, and more.
