VWCS offers free developmental screening

Van Wert City Schools will be offering a free developmental screening to any child, ages 3-5, who resides with the local school district and is not entering kindergarten in the fall. The screening will be held Thursday, May 3, from noon to 7 p.m., and Friday, May 4, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 220 S. Walnut St.

The screening, which will include height, weight, hearing, vision, speech/language, fine motor and gross motor skills, cognition, and social/emotional development, will be conducted by the VWCS preschool staff and community partners, is offered to any child in the VWCS district regardless of preschool choice for the 2012-2013 school year.

Those wanting to participate must have an appointment for this screening, which can be obtained by calling 419.238.1514, extension 221. To enter preschool for the following year, a child needs to be 3 by August 1 and not be going on to kindergarten this fall (kindergarten children are screened separately in the fall).
