VW Marlins hold end-of-season banquet

The YMCA Marlins held their winter season ending banquet on March 29 at St Mary’s Church.

Trophies were presented to the swimmers who had the most time improvements over the season in each age group for both boys and girls. Winners were: 8 & Under – Emma Pollock and Daniel Miller; 9 & 10 – Andrew Miller and Risa Pollock; 11 & 12 – Addison Henkaline and Sam Easley; 13-14 Girls – Bethany Fast; 15-18 Boys – Eric Easley.

Coaches Lee Schumm and Lanna Pollock named Bethany Fast as the recipient of the Coaches Award, citing her hard work ethic and leadership as the reasons for her selection.

There were 15 records set by four different swimmers (all times are yards):  Emma Pollock set new marks for 8 & Under Girls in the 25 freestyle (15.11), 50 freestyle (34.79), 25 butterfly (17.44) and 100 IM (1:12.86). Katie McVaigh set a new mark for 9-10 Girls in the 50 backstroke (34.83).  Sam and Eric Easley each established five new records in their respective age divisions. Sam set new marks for the 11-12 Boys in the 50 freestyle (24.05), 100 freestyle (53.62), 200 freestyle (2:17.77), 50 backstroke (28.20) and 50 butterfly (30.46).  Eric set new records for the 15-18 boys in the 50 freestyle (22.60), 50 backstroke (26.48), 100 backstroke (55.68), 50 breaststroke (29.20) and 200 IM (2:27.75).

The YMCA Marlins will begin the summer season with a home meet on June 11. Registration for the summer swim will begin in mid-May; watch for announcements.
