SWMD to host Earth Day open house

This Saturday, April 21, the Van Wert Solid Waste Management District will host an Earth Day Open House from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Call those bookworm, gardening, and recycling friends and meet them at the open house for refreshments, freebies and fellowship. Take a guided tour of the Material Recovery Facility where 16,000 to 20,000 pounds of recycled material is processed each day.

It is time to make it shine in the Van Wert county community so gather all those recyclable items that are cluttering up your home and property and get them to the recycling center.

The free stuff includes:

  • 1,000 sugar maple tree seedlings (district residents)
  • Four free scoops of regular wood mulch. (district residents)
  • Thousands of free books
  • Hot and cold beverages, hot dogs and other refreshments.
  • All the other electronics recycling including televisions and monitors
  • All appliances from your toaster to the walk-in freezer
  • Four passenger tires (District residents)

Electronics include: computers and all accessories, stereo equipment, televisions, VCR and DVD players, adding machines, radios, communication equipment, and anything else with a cord or a battery.

Appliances include: microwaves, sweepers, toasters, air conditioners, bicycles, freezers, refrigerators, stoves, hot water heaters, dishwashers, washers, dryers, grills, power tools, lawn mowers, trimmers, and anything else with a cord, engine or battery.
