17th DARE golf outing date announced

The Van Wert City/ County DARE Team would like to announce its upcoming 17th annual Golf Outing. The tournament will be held at Hickory Sticks Golf Course on Saturday, May 12, starting at 9 a.m. In case of rain the tournament will be held Sunday, May 20, at 9 a.m. The Fraternal Order of Police will be sponsoring the tournament once again this year.

All proceeds from the tournament go back to the youth of this community by helping to fund their DARE schooling. The schooling covers the hazardous effects of violence, drugs and alcohol to the human body. The DARE Program also covers important family values and other important items that the children will need through out their lives. DARE is a self funded program so it is through fund raisers like this outing that we are able to continue to help the youth of Van Wert.

Hole sponsors are still available at a cost of $100. Donors’ names will be put on a sign and posted at one of the holes on the course showing everyone that they support DARE. Hole sponsor and team roster forms are available at the Hickory Sticks Golf Course or by contacting Officer Greg Blackmore at 419.238.2462 or Chief Deputy Keith Allen at 419.238.3866.

This is the 13th year that Young’s Waste Service will be sponsoring the $10,000 Hole In One Contest. This is a huge success every year and the owners continue to support the DARE Program because they say they believe that it helps Van Wert County young people.

The cost per golfer is $50 and includes 18 holes of golf, cart, door prizes and barbecue pork lunch.
