4-H Earth Day event

A total of 22 trees were planted on the fairgrounds Sunday in honor of Earth Day. The red maples were planted at the Community Gardens (near the old swimming pool), where they will remain in a nursery until mature enough to be transplanted elsewhere on the fairgrounds. This project was conducted by the Van Wert County 4-H program and supported with donations and help from the Van Wert Soil & Water Conservation District, Carter Lumber, Walmart’s Bakery and Scott Equity Exchange. The 4-H program hopes this will become an annual occurrence and provide a continual supply of new trees for the fairgrounds and also celebrate Earth Day. A special “thank you” is given to Harrison Jolly Boosters and Clever Clovers 4-H clubs for their participation and help in preparing and planting the trees.
