2 appear in Common Pleas Court

Van Wert independent

Two people were in Van Wert County Common Pleas Court on Thursday for hearings.

Shay Ringwald, 23, was in court after failing to appear for a pretrial conference on Wednesday. On Thursday, Ringwald changed his plea to guilty on a charge of possession of heroin and requested treatment in lieu of conviction. Judge Charles D. Steele granted the motion and placed him on community control for a year while he is undergoing treatment.

Jerry Dominique, 47, of Van Wert, admitted to violating his probation by failing to report to his probation officer and for testing positive for heroin use.

Judge Steele sentenced him to serve a previously deferred 12-month prison term, while also giving him credit for 97 days already served.
