Mock crash

It began with squealing tires, the screech of brakes and the sound of metal being twisted and smashed. Crestview High School’s mock crash held Friday was a sobering portrayal of what can happen when alcohol and driving mix on Prom Night. The students who watched — and even some of those involved in the event — were emotionally caught up in the dramatic portrayal (above) held in a school parking lot. One student, Taylor Springer (at right), even cried as she read a piece about a girl who doesn’t want to die at 17 after an alcohol-related car crash. The event was put on with the assistance of Krista Schlemmer of Leland Smith Insurance Services, Convoy Fire Department, Wren Fire Department, Scott EMS squad, Brickner’s Ambulance Service, the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Van Wert County Sheriff’s Department, Parkview Samaritan medical helicopter service (below, landing on the football field), Van Wert Auto Salvage and 2As Auto.
