Relay for Life Torch Walk this Friday

American Cancer Society information

This year’s Relay For Life Torch Walk will start at the YWCA at 5 p.m. on Friday, May 4, to kick off the Van Wert County Relay For Life event held at the county fairgrounds.  The survivor lap will be at 6 p.m., followed by the caregiver lap. The reception will take place immediately afterwards at the north end of the commercial building.  All survivors and caregivers are invited to attend.

“Popper,” the Relay For Life mini-horse will be walking in the torch walk from the YW to the fairgrounds, as will his sidekick, “Diamond” the donkey. Popper will be wearing a survivor shirt and sporting a braided tail, while Diamond will be toting Relay buckets on his side to accept donations along the way for those wishing to donate. In 2011, Popper collected $100 for the American Cancer Society fundraiser.

The very impressive luminary service will commence at 10 on Friday night. Names of survivors and those who have lost their battle with cancer will be read at this time. Those who have not purchased a luminary and want to do so can call 419.238.0197 to have the name of a loved one remembered.
