VW girls 2nd, boys 5th at Indiana meet

NEW HAVEN, Ind. — The Van Wert boys’ and girls’ track and field teams competed in the very competitive 57th annual New Haven Relays on Friday night.

The girls’ team, led by sophomore sprinter Amanda Clay and distance runner Andi Foster, finished second with 90 points in the nine-team invitational. The meet was won by Concordia Lutheran with 115 points. The girls’ team showed great all a round balance by scoring in 14 of 16 events.

The Cougar boys’ team, which did not compete  at full strength, finished in fifth place with 61 points out of nine teams. The championship was won by host New Haven with 125 points.

The Van Wert boys’ team was led by junior distance runner Jared Fleming, who was named the “Outstanding Male Athlete” of the meet. Fleming also set a meet record in the 1600-meter run.
