Lancer softball team gets tourney win

The Lincolnview softball team parlayed a big fourth-inning into a 12-1 victory to eliminate Spencerville from the Division IV sectional tournament on Saturday.

The Lady Lancers scored eight runs in the bottom of the fourth, after Spencerville scored the first run of the game in the top of that inning. Lincolnview added a run in the sixth and three more in the seventh to seal the victory.

Ashley McClure was the winning pitcher for the Lancers, giving up a run on three hits, while striking out 10 and walking just one batter. Tori Johnston was the losing pitcher for the Lady Bearcats.

Offensive leaders for Lincolnview included Carley Springer, who had a three-run home run to deep center in the fourth as part of the Lancers’ eight-run explosion. Springer, Macey Ashbaugh and Devann Springer each had two hits in the game, with Jodie Doner and Baylee Neate each collecting two RBI.

Delphos Jefferson was the winner of the second game, downing Ottoville 5-2 in the contest.

The Lady Wildcats scored first with a run in the bottom of the first inning and then added two runs in the third and one run each in the fifth and sixth innings.

Samantha Branham was the winning pitcher for Jefferson, giving up two earned runs on eight hits, while striking out nine and walking three. Courtney Von Sosson took the loss for the Lady Big Green, giving up four earned runs on 10 hits, while striking out one and walking one.

Branham also hit a solo home run to help her cause, while Samantha Thitoff and Corinne Metzger each had two hits. Fallon Van Dyke had a double for the Wildcats.
