Lancers, Big Green sectional winners

CONVOY — The Lincolnview Lancer baseball team pounded Antwerp 13-2 in a run-ruled Division IV sectional tournament game played at Crestview High School on Saturday.

The Lancers scored all their runs in two innings, knocking in seven runs in the second inning and six in the bottom of the fourth after the Archers had taken a 1-0 lead to start off the game.

Kyle Williams was the winning pitcher for Lincolnview, giving up two runs on three hits, while walking four and striking out two batters. Andy Coleman of Antwerp was the losing pitcher, giving up seven runs on six hits, four walks and a strikeout.

Nick Leeth had a triple and a single and drove in four RBI, while Derek Friesner had three RBI and a triple, Mike Klausing hit a double and had two RBI, and Clayton Longstreth and Troy Patterson each had  RBI singles.

Coleman and Derek Smalley also hit RBI singles for Antwerp.

Lincolnview will now play the Crestview Knights on Wednesday in the sectional finals.

Ottoville was the other Crestview sectional winner, downing Fort Jennings 9-4 in the second sectional game on Saturday. The Big Green led 2-1 in the first inning and added four runs in the fourth for a 6-1 lead. The Musketeers scored three runs in the sixth inning, after Ottoville added another run in the top of the sixth for a 7-4 score before the Big Green scored two insurance runs in the seventh for the final score.

Travis Maag was the winning pitcher for Ottoville, giving up four runs on five hits, while also striking out eight and walking three. Cody Warnecke was the losing pitcher, giving up six runs on six hits, while striking out five and walking two.

Maag also led the Big Green offense, hitting two singles and a triple and knocking in three RBI. Austin Markward had a double and two RBI, while Derek Schimmoeller added an RBI single and Alex Horstman also had an RBI.

For Fort Jennings, Warnecke had a single and a double and two runs batted in, while Alex Vetter knocked in two runs with a single and Troy Hellman had a double in the game.

Ottoville will next play Spencerville on Friday.
