VW girls 1st, boys 2nd at WBL meet

LIMA — This past Friday, the Van Wert boys’ and girls’ track and field teams competed in the annual Shawnee Invitational (Western Buckeye League meet).

Although the Cougar boys captured only three first place finishes, they were able to walk away with the runner-up trophy, falling to the champion Wapakoneta Redskins by just nine points.  The Van Wert boys team went into this meet with back-to-back league championships but couldn’t quite pull it off this year.

The Lady Cougars were out to repeat as WBL champions and they did just that, capturing first place with an impressive six first-place finishes.

The Van Wert track teams run against Shawnee and Wayne Trace today at home and will compete in the Ayers Spectacular (relay meet) at Celina on Thursday for their final meet of the season.
