Garden club plans annual Flower Sale

Gardeners of Van Wert County information

Just in time for Mothers’ Day, the Gardeners of Van Wert County will be having their annual Flower Sale in front of the Courthouse on Main Street in Van Wert. The sale will be held Friday, May 11, and Saturday, May 12, beginning at 8 a.m. each day.

The club will have its usual fine selection of annuals, including geraniums, petunias, marigolds, sweet alyssum, dahlias, impatiens, zinnias, and more. Those interested in hanging baskets will find a good selection of those as well.  Always in A-1 shape, the flowers are delivered the day before the sale from the suppliers and will be priced comparatively to flowers found at retail stores.

Club members would like to direct area residents’ attention to the new Super-tunias available this year.  Super-tunias, by Proven Winners, are a good choice for hanging baskets. Likethe Wave petunias, Super-tunias are brightly colored and wide spreading so they hang nicely from baskets or planters.

This sale makes it possible for the Gardeners of Van Wert County to plant and care for the flower beds in the civic parks, including the beds at the corner of Ervin Road and Washington Street and the five flowerbeds on West Main Street in Memorial Park. Additionally, the club plants flowers at the entrance to the fairgrounds, at the corner of Mendon Road and Hospital Drive, and in planters at the fairgrounds.  The peony garden at Smiley Park is also under the club’s care.

Buying flowers at this annual sale shows the club that people appreciate its efforts and would like to see the work continue.
