Optimist contest winners
The Van Wert Optimist Club judged students in its essay contest based on the topic “How my Positive Outlook Benefits my Community.” Three area students were honored during the March 8 Optimist Club meeting while presenting their essays. Layne Callow, a senior at Crestview High School, won first place and was awarded a $200 check and gold medallion. In addition, her winning essay was submitted to the district level to be judged. Katelyn Etter, a student from Van Wert High School, finished in second place and was awarded a $100 check and silver medallion. Third place was awarded to Nikolas Wolford, also from Van Wert High School, who received a $50 check and a bronze medallion. These students did a wonderful job of articulating this year’s theme. Judges this year were Bitsy Clark, Amy Prichard, and Paul Cearns. There were 48 essay entries from area students. (Optimist Club photo)
