Knights on the ‘homestretch’
By Jared Burger

With less than a month left, the halls of Crestview have a reinvigorated feeling. They are buzzing with excitement and students are already planning on what they will do in the summer. The seniors are a little subdued as they are starting to realize that there time at Crestview will be coming to an end, but they are excited to begin their college lives. With spring sports heading towards tournament, the teams work hard with a goal of going to state in mind.
After sending the girls 4×400 meter relay team to a third place finish last year at state, the Crestview track team has high hopes for both the boys and girls. Second year head coach James Lautzenheiser stated, “We are excited this year. We have a strong chance of sending three events to state.” He also went on to say that the goal of the team was to peak at districts, which he believed to be the most competitive in Ohio and build on that to get past regionals and on to state.
The baseball team, under Coach Jim Wharton, prepares to head into tournament. At 13-9, the Knights are not satisfied. They believe that they have a team with high potential if only they could get rid of the small mistakes. That has been what they have been focusing on; doing the little things right. The team has high hopes for itself as it prepares for tournament. They believe that it is time for the boys to get to state and they have no intention of putting their gloves away anytime soon.
The Crestview softball team continues their dominating ways. After being state runners-up last year, this team has come back with a vengeance. With only two losses, they have their eyes turned towards Akron and the state tournament. “We are hungry,” said senior Taylor Springer. “We have been so close to getting to be the champs but have always come up just short. We have been working very hard and though getting back to state is in our sight, we do not let it cloud our thoughts or keep us from focusing on the next game.” The Lady Knights have shown this to be true as in many of their wins, they have run ruled their opponents.
Can the Knights send three different teams to state? Could this be Crestview’s Secretariat, winning all three of the Triple Crown races? One can only hope.
