Van Wert independent/WBESC information

The Western Buckeye Educational Service Center Governing Board met Wednesday at the Van Wert ESC office at the Thomas Edison Early Childhood building for its May meeting.

Superintendent Brian Gerber told the board that five 21st Century grant applications had been submitted for the upcoming school year. Although he also noted that a large percentage of 21st Century grants go to urban school districts, attempts would continue locally to secure some of those grant dollars.

Also during the meeting, the board approved revised Fiscal Year 2012 service contracts with Antwerp, Crestview and Wayne Trace local schools, as well as a motion to align Crestview and Lincolnview school districts with the WBESC, as required by state law.

The board also authorized a continuation of the WBESC as fiscal agent for the Paulding County Family and Children First/Help Me Grow program, effective July 1, for one year.

Several personnel items were also approved by the board. They include the following:

  • Approved a two-year contract for Laura Priest as COTA/L, beginning August 1, through July 31, 2013.
  • Approved six extra days at current salary rate for Christine Feuchter for FY 2012 PEERS coordination.
  • Authorized a purchase services agreement with Alicia Tipton to provide ESY summer tutor services.
  • Employed Sandra Etzler as a paraprofessional for the 2012-2013 school year.
  • Set a retire-rehire hearing for Karla Treece as director of student services at Lincolnview Local Schools. The hearing will be held in June.
  • Went into executive session to discuss personnel issues, with no action taken following the session.

The board also entered into a contract with Midwest Rehab Inc. to provide a licensed speech therapist for the 2012-2013 school year and continued speech therapy services with Therapy Solutions.

Also during the meeting, Treasurer Gary Ginter reviewed current financial reports, investments and monthly expenditures with the board.

The board’s next regular meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 27, at the Paulding ESC office.
