Flexibility and fire trucks

Every day the students at St. Mary's School walk or run laps during the morning recess. Mr. Minnig, fitness teacher, keeps record of the Miles covered and marks them on a map. In the last 3 years, the students have logged over 5500 miles. This is enough miles to go around the United States and return to Van Wert. (Photo submitted.)

Following Mass on Friday, May 11, the students quietly filed from the church to the Mary Shrine near the Spencer Street entrance. This is part of what Catholics call the “May Crowning.” Caton Williamson, fifth grade, placed a crown of flowers on the head of the statue.

People recognized for "flexibility" included Mrs. Vaughn, Zach Miller, Erica Burk, Rilee Conrad, Emma Pollock and Payton Williamson. (Photo submitted.)

Flexibility was the final LIFE (Living in a Faithfilled Environment) Skill of the year. The Bible role model was Joseph, the son of Isaac. Joseph, best known for his coat of many colors could interpret dreams. Through a series of events he became second in command to the Egyptian Pharaoh. When a famine caused his brothers who had betrayed him to seek food in Egypt, Joseph forgave them and welcomed into his arms. His flexibility and ability to forgive allowed the family to be reunited. People recognized for “flexibility” included Mrs. Vaughn, Zach Miller, Erica Burk, Rilee Conrad, Emma Pollock and Payton Williamson.

Third-grader Hanna Say received a ride to school in the Van Wert City Fire Department truck as a reward from a coloring contest. From left, unidentified fireman, Hannah, and Dave Mathew.
