Hall of Fame basketball camp announced

VWHS athletic information

Information regarding this year’s Hall of Fame Skills Basketball camp has been released. The camp is for all basketball players (boys or girls) entering grades 8-12, and will run six times throughout the course of the summer at Van Wert High School.

Dates for the camp are as follows: Wednesday, June 6; Sunday, June 10; Wednesday, June 13, Wednesday, June 20; Sunday, June 24 and Wednesday June 27.

The sessions will be held at Van Wert High School, and will run from 7:30-9 p.m.

This program is designed for the serious basketball player from any school who has a strong desire to improve their individual skill development. In recent years, young basketball players now spend their time playing just games in the off-season and not working to improve on the necessary fundamentals of the game. This program will offer each player an opportunity to spend quality time with the teaching of skills and then participate in individual drills necessary to gain the mental and physical understanding of this great game.

This will be an intense and demanding program of drill work. It is not important what your individual skill level is at this point, what is important is your desire to learn the correct way to practice and improve. This will be accomplished through the serious approach that will be demanded by the coaching staff.

The camp coaching staff includes Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame coaches Al Welch of Wayne Trace, Ray Etzler of Crestview, Larry Clark of Lincolnview and Perrysburg and Bob Seggerson of Lima Central Catholic, who will conduct this camp every night. The program will be dedicated to detailed teaching of individual fundamentals. Groups will be small and proper execution will be emphasized. Each technique will be taught step-by step in great detail. The whole-part-whole process will be introduced and each player will be drilled repeatedly throughout the session. The emphasis is on teaching individual skills and proper technique that establishes a base of understanding necessary to become a good player at any level on any team.

The fee for the entire program is $50, which is due with the application. All players are welcome even if you have to miss a particular session date. Registration forms should be sent on or before June 1 to guarantee enrollment. Any application received after June 1 is subject to availability. To get the application, please contact Coach Dave Froelich at Van Wert High School by calling 419.238.3350 or 419.513.0310, or e-mailing d_froelich@vwcs.net.
